Tidewall Privacy Policy
Last updated: 13 October 2026
Tidewall is a browser extension that checks messages typed into AI tools for personal data and secrets before they are sent. It is built so that what you type never leaves your device.
What Tidewall does not do
- It does not collect, store, transmit or sell the text you type, paste or send.
- It does not send any data to Tidewall, its developer or any third party. The extension makes no network requests of its own.
- It does not use analytics, tracking, advertising or remote code.
- It does not read pages other than the AI tools listed in the extension.
What stays on your device
| Data | Where | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your rules (which data to allow, warn, redact or block; your own words; which AI tools are allowed) | your browser's extension storage | so your settings are applied | until you change them or remove the extension |
| An activity list: the kind of data found (for example "email address"), the AI tool, the time, the action taken, and a reason if you chose *Send anyway* | your browser's extension storage | so you can see what was caught | latest 300 entries; you can clear it at any time on the Rules page |
| Daily counts (messages checked, items redacted, secrets stopped) | your browser's extension storage | the numbers in the toolbar popup | 90 days |
The link between a placeholder such as [EMAIL_1] and the real value | the memory of the open tab only | to show real details in the AI's reply on your screen | until the tab is closed |
None of this includes the text of your messages.
Company-managed installations
If your organisation installs Tidewall through Google Workspace, Microsoft Intune or similar, it can set your rules through your browser's managed settings. In this version your organisation does not receive your activity list or any message content from Tidewall.
Your rights
Because Tidewall does not collect personal data, there is nothing held by us to access, correct or delete. You can remove all data Tidewall stores in your browser by clearing the activity list or removing the extension.
Changes
If a future version offers optional features that send any data off your device (for example an admin console), they will be described here before release and will need to be turned on by you or your organisation.
